This flavored salt is inspired by the favorite fermented food, and specifically by the Kimchi made at Ernie's Cafe in Friday Harbor. San Juan Island Sea Salt aimed to evoke the amazingly unique flavors of kimchi, resulting in a delicious multipurpose condiment. This savory, tangy, and ever-so-slightly spicy salt is great on rice, vegetables, buttered popcorn, scrambled eggs, avocados, and more.
From May to September, Brady and his team gather seawater from the shores of San Juan Island in the Pacific Northwest. At their farm, this water is filtered and brought to their evaporation houses. Under the summer sun, the water evaporates and leaves behind their signature salt, into which the briny flavor of the sea is locked.
